There’s a phrase I use in my house to remind my family that we have to do things just one step a time. “You can’t eat an elephant in one bite.” When I say it, they know I mean your room is going to get clean by putting away one toy at a time, or that a looming math assignment doesn’t have to be accomplished within the next 5 minutes; we can tackle seemingly insurmountable tasks one step at a time.
So, it seems like I might need to take my own advice as I try to prep for our trip (which is LESS than 2 weeks away now!) because I’m having a little mini melt down this morning. My husband has made us some super awesome checklists in Evernote, which I’ve loved using. We’ve been able to work together to accomplish some of the big things we needed to do to get ready to go. But honestly, I’m getting down to the jobs that I don’t really enjoy doing…like laundry…and packing (ugh!) and trying to figure out what I actually need to take for 3 months vs. what I would really have to have, and where in the world I’m going to store it all! Corey keeps telling me “there’s TONS of storage in here!” and I want to believe him, but we’ll see how accessible it is once I start packing it all in. *Sigh…Breathe…..One bite at a time….*
So my 3 bites for today are to make it through our last meeting of the school year with our amazing Education Coordinator from our charter school, to start working on a pattern for the truck boot I need to sew, and start prepping clothes for the girls to take. I’m just going to try to keep the perspective that we only need a few changes of clothes, and if we forget anything we can’t live without, there will be plenty of places along the way to stop.
